Hi, I’m Jacob Colyott, Operations Manager at “Momma Rhodes,” the Rhodes location on North Kingshighway in Cape. I joined PAJCO (the company that owns Rhodes, Imo’s Pizza locations and Rally’s Drive-Ins) in May 2018. During my three years here, I have come to cherish the relationships I have built with my fellow team members and customers. I have learned that PAJCO truly cares about its team and their journeys in life. They have helped me in many aspects of my own life. Whatever me and my teammates have given to PAJCO, the company has given back to us.
Before joining Rhodes, I worked as a server, back-of-house manager, assistant manager and general manager at Chick-Fil-A, Penn Station East Coast Subs, Wings, Etc. and Family Video. I didn’t stay with any of them for more than three years. I decided to join Rhodes because I knew several Rhodes employees who had great experiences and success with the company. As soon as I began my employment at Rhodes, I quickly realized that convenience stores are a staple in the everyday life of a community.
As I mentioned earlier, PAJCO is the mother company of several great local businesses. It’s the most giving and thoughtful company I have ever worked for and I’ve never had more respect for a company and my supervisors as I do here. I would like to finish my education and start a career within the PAJCO home office, which would put me well beyond the three-year mark that I spent with any of my previous employers. I want to use my skills and experiences I’ve gained from working in the company to help others reach their goals in life and carry out PAJCO’s mission statement and core values.
Out of all PAJCO’s core values, this one is my favorite, “Do what we say we will do every time.” This value not only resonates with me inside the workplace, but also in my personal life. By holding this value, people will know what to expect from you, trust your word and value you. It’s something I feel our society is lacking as a whole and is a crucial part of building positive relationships.
I enjoy working alongside all my teammates including General Manager Marquis Brookins. I do my best to assist him in creating the most positive working environment that I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Our guests are a big part of that positive experience. Those guests include David Snell who is a pleasure to converse with every time he walks into our store. Karmon Kessee is a guest who I’ve had the pleasure of serving at this Rhodes location and my first Rhodes store assignment on North Sprigg Street in Cape. Obviously, my favorite guest has been Kaitlyn Shallow, my fiancé. If it wasn’t for working at Rhodes, I would never have met and fallen in love with her.
I recommend that anyone consider joining the PAJCO team because the company values all its employees and will go out of its way to help them succeed in their lives. Visit www.Rhodes101.com to learn more about career opportunities at Rhodes and to submit an application.
Jake’s General Manager, Marquis Brookins, had this to say about Jake, “Jake is a valuable team member for several reasons. Jake is almost always upbeat and truly has the desire to do a great job. He is thoughtful and works hard to plan ahead on taking care of the store’s needs. Jake is personable. He works to build relationships and grow the people he comes in contact with. Jake almost never says “no” to anything. If he can be of assistance, he gives the gift of his time, energy, and thoughtfulness to accomplish the objectives at hand. Selfishly, I am elated to have Jake as our Operations Manager because of the value he adds to the store and those around him.”
